Baikal evolution 2024. 17 August.

Day 1 of the expedition.

The R/V “Akademik Koptyug” started from Listvyanka towards Maloye More. In the morning, D.Yu. Shcherbakov gave a lecture on the biodiversity of Lake Baikal. The lecturer listed and briefly described various groups inhabiting Lake Baikal. P.B. Drozdova gave a lecture on “Assessment of species diversity of Baikal amphipods: genetic diversity and reproductive compatibility”. At the end of the day, the R/V “Akademik Koptyug” arrived to Maloye More and stopped at the settlement of Zama. A.A. Kotov explained and showed how to make light traps for catching amphipods and cladocerans. Amphipods and microuropus were caught. Romanova Ye.V. and Bukin Yu.S. also showed how to work with a Juday net and how to catch amphipods with the help of light. All collected samples could be studied under binoculars.
