Expedition on the R/V G. Yu. Vereshchagin to study the Baikal omul in the Selenginsky shallow water on May 26-30, 2026
The first trawl-hydroacoustic studies of the Selenginsky population of the feeding omul shoal using the Echo-Baikal hydroacoustic complex were carried out this year.
Shooting in the Selenginsky shallow water (the tacks are 300 km long and cover more than 140,000 hectares) showed a underdispersion of omul from Posolsky Sor to Cape Oblom, and also enabled to record the accumulation zones of larger individuals.
A comparison of the results with data from prior years reveals a consistent rise in the number of omul, indicating a notable recruitment of the feeding shoal with young generations of 2024 and an increase in the average fish age.
